2026 report from McKinsey and the International Education Funders Group (IEFG) highlights that philanthropy can rewire how education is financed; using IFFEd as a notable case study (pg 15).
Grants will never address the scale or structure of the nearly $100bn annual financing gap in education and neither will philanthropy alone but: “If philanthropies globally provided guarantees equivalent to just 1 percent of their endowments, they could unlock as much as $21 billion in additional concessional loans for education in low- and middle-income countries.”
